Caring for Colombia and Fundación Nacional Batuta are pleased to announce an alliance to promote and develop joint activities in the USA.

Fundación Nacional Batuta is the leading musical education organization in Colombia.  It makes music more accessible and contributes to transforming the lives of many underprivileged children for the better.  To date, Fundación Batuta has reached 40,000 children throughout Colombia.  The children who benefitted from its programs have successfully put together 48 orchestras currently known nationally and internationally.

Batuta offers children and youth at risk (from 2 to 18 years old) and with no access to extracurricular activities different alternatives to learn music educational programs.  Some of  the music alternatives include:

  • Music Appreciation Programs for pre-school children
  • Music Initiation Programs to create pre-orchestras among youngsters
  • Symphonic Programs aimed at creating orchestras in all Colombian  regions

Batuta’s participants, most of whom would not otherwise be able to play an instrument, currently collaborate with their peers in this artistic endeavour and have earned the self- confidence that comes from achieving a difficult result with the application of hard work and talent.

Please help  Batuta bring music to more children in Colombia’s vulnerable regions by exploring sponsorship  and mentoring opportunities with Caring for Colombia:

Rock for Caring for Colombia

During almost two hours, on April 16th, the students of the Lycée Français de New York (“LFNY”) rocked their schoolmates during a very successful performance.

Five bands played original songs in a Live Aid Concert given to the benefit of Caring for Colombia through the LFNY’s Finance Club.  As pictures and videos of Colombian children were displayed in the background, the talented musicians gave all their energy and enthusiasm in a show of generosity and solidarity with the children of Colombia.  The money raised will go towards micro-finance projects in Colombia.

Caring for Colombia is very grateful to the LFNY, its musicians and students, for their support.

Roubini: LatAm Got its Act Together

(LatinFinance) The larger economies in Latin America have firm fundamentals, according to Nouriel Roubini, faculty member at NYU’s Stern School of Business, who remains cautious on the global outlook. Roubini lists Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Peru as the LatAm nations committed to market friendly reform. “The fundamentals of these economies are relatively sound. They had financial crisis before, they got their act together, they cleaned up their financial system, they are committed to macro economic stability, low fiscal deficits, independent central banks, continued market oriented opening of trade and FDI and so on,” says Roubini. He notes a negative impact from lower commodity prices and slumping remittances, but is generally upbeat on the region. “Political stability matters a lot,” says the economist who earned the nickname Dr Doom for forecasting last year’s crisis. “On emerging markets, I would be more optimistic than I am about advanced economies,” he adds, however warning that EM must switch from exports to domestic growth drivers to offset external pressure. According to the economist, the recent global rally in financial markets is partly justified by fundamentals, easing risk aversion and the forward looking nature of asset prices. However, the price rise has been much faster than the underlying recovery and is only justified if there is a V-shaped bounce in the US. However, Roubini predicts a weaker, U-shaped recovery with a risk of a double dip in the US. This would prompt poor macro data and a weak outlook for 2010 earnings growth, as well as losses in the financial sector. “I see a risk of a correction down the line,” says the academic. “The global economy is barely recovering, it’s still on its knees, and if you take away the fiscal stimulus too soon, you may end up like Japan in 1998-2000, or US in 1937-1939,” says Roubini. He was speaking this week at an event in New York hosted by the Caring for Colombia charity.

On September 16th, Caring for Colombia organized an intimate event around Nouriel Roubini, the famous economist who correctly forecast the financial and economic crisis of 2007-2009.

Approximately 60 participants had the unique opportunity to hear Mr. Roubini’s views of the current economic outlook and also learned more about Caring for Colombia.

Latin Finance, RCN, la W and Caracol reported on the event (see below).

Caring for Colombia is very grateful to Nouriel Roubini, for his time and support.
