We offer children, youth, and families a safe, open space to engage with reading, writing, oral traditions, environmental education, and play as a learning tool. We foster critical thinking, self-expression, and stewardship of the Pacific’s natural environment, working in partnership with the community, foundations, educational institutions, and volunteers.
We primarily serve Afro-descendant populations and Embera children, tracking participation in a way that recognizes distinct backgrounds and values ancestral knowledge. Our programming is tailored to different age groups and includes reading clubs, environmental science activities, an environmental film club, educational games, and emotional education workshops.
We promote the participation of women and female heads of household through women’s circles and support for local entrepreneurial ventures. We provide support to children with disabilities or social integration challenges—along with their families—and offer a home-delivery book service for readers over the age of 60. We serve a rural territory characterized by difficult access and limited connectivity, and we encourage recycling by allowing residents to exchange plastic, cans, and bottle caps for library services.
